Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay will host two workshops for making 80 full-size statues of the Marchers who took part in Mahatma Gandhi’s historic Dandi March in 1930. These sculptures are part of the art components of‘Dandi Salt Satyagraha Memorial’, a Project of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India advised by a High Level Dandi Memorial Committee, coordinated and implemented by IIT Bombay in association with an International Design Team.
Industrial Design Centre (IDC) of IIT Bombay has been co-ordinating the research, design visualization and creation of the art components for the Memorial Project, which include a bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi, 24 narrative stoneware murals for the pathway leading to the main statue and the cluster of 80 full-size Dandi Marchers’ sculpture etc which will be created – through voluntary and combined efforts of the creative community – both national and international.
In a unique event, 40 sculptors selected through a world-wide call for participation will work together in two 2-week long workshops at IIT Bombay on 7-24 November and 7-22 December, 2013 under the guidance of experienced resource persons.
The first workshop will be inaugurated by Padma Bhushan Justice Shri CS Dharmadhikari, eminent Gandhian and Chairman of the Institute for Gandhian Studies, Wardha. A series of evening talks on Gandhian Philosophy and Methodology will also be arranged throughout the two workshops. Invited speakers include Smt
Chandresh Kumari Katoch (Honorable Minister of Culture, Govt of India); Shri Gopalkrishna Gandhi (Former Governor of West Bengal); Prof Shri KV Thomas (Honorable Minister of State for Food and Public Distribution); Dr Shri YP Anand (Former Director, National Gandhi Museum, New Delhi); Shri Pawan Gupta (Founder, Society for Integrated Development of Himalayas) Smt Radha Bhatt (Chairperson, Gandhi Peace Foundation, New Delhi); Shri Jairam Ramesh (Honorable Union Minister for Rural Development); Shri Tushar Gandhi (Managing Trustee, Mahatma Gandhi Foundation); Shri Rajiv Vora (Chairman, Swaraj Peeth Trust); Shri Vijay Crishna (Theatre Personality and Director, Godrej Industries) and Venerable Prof Samdhong Rinpoche (Former Prime Minister, Tibetan Government in Exile).
A series of major and rare documentaries about Mahatma Gandhi and Dandi March will also be screened in the evening throughout the two workshops. The films include “Gandhi” (Directed by: Richard Attenborough); “Force More Powerful: A Century of Non-Violent Conflict” (Produced by Albert Einstein Institute); “Mahatma: Life of MK Gandhi” (Directed by: Vithalbhai Zaveri); “Gandhi: 30th January 1948, End of an Empire”; “Salt: The Substance of Swaraj” (Produced by Aditya Birla Group); “The Path of Non-violence with Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela” (Produced by American Institute of Education) and “Eyes on the Prize: America’s Civil Rights Years”(Directed by: Henry Hampton).
Two exhibitions will also be held in IDC during the workshops: “In Search of Gandhi” featuring seven contemporary Indian artists curated by Shri Suresh Jayaram, Art Historian and Visual Artist and “My Life is My Message”, an exhibition compiled and designed by Prof Kirti Trivedi for Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad.

आई.आई.टी मुंबई में 'सत्याग्रही शिल्प कार्यशाला'
आई.आई.टी मुंबई में सत्याग्रही शिल्प कार्यशालाओं का आयोजन कर रही है जिनमें १९३० में गांधी जी के ऐतिहासिक डांडी पदयात्रा में शामिल ८० सत्यग्राहिओं की मूर्तियों का निर्माण होगा। ये मूर्तियाँ 'डांडी नमक सत्याग्रह स्मारक' लगाई जाने वाली कलाकृतियां है। यह संस्कृति मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार की परियोजना है, जिसका संयोजन आई.आई.टी मुंबई एक उच्च स्तरीय डांडी स्मारक समिति के मार्गदर्शन में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय डिज़ाइन टीम के सहयोग द्वारा कार्यान्वित कर रही है।
आई.आई.टी मुंबई का इंडस्ट्रियल डिज़ाइन सेंटर स्मारक से जुडी कलाकृतियों के अनुसन्धान, अभिकल्पना एवं निर्माण कार्य का संयोजन कर रहा है, जिसके अंतर्गत महात्मा गांधी की एक १५ फुट ऊंची कांसे की मूर्ति के अतिरिक्त २४ भित्तिचित्र तथा ८० आदम कद डांडी सत्याग्रहियों की मुर्तियां बनाई जायेंगी। इन मूर्तियो का निर्माण राष्ट्रीय एवं अंतर्राष्ट्रीय कला जगत के सहयोग से होगा।
विश्वभर से चुने ४० मूर्तिकारों का दो हफ्तों की कार्यशालाओं (७-२४ नवंबर व ७-२२ दिसम्बर २०१३) में एक साथ मूर्तियाँ बनाना एक अत्यंत विशिष्ट आयोजन है।
पहली कार्यशाला का उद्घाटन विख्यात गाँधीवादी तथा गांधी विचार परिषद् , वर्धा के प्रमुख पदम् भूषण न्यायमूर्ति श्री चंद्रशेखर धर्माधिकरी के कर कमलों से होगा। इन दो कार्यशालाओं के दौरान गांधी विचारधारा पर एक व्याख्यान माला और फिल्मों कि श्रृंखला का प्रदर्शन भी होगा। आमंत्रित वक्ताओं में शामिल हैँ - श्रीमती

इस कार्यशाला के दौरान आई. डी. सी एक प्रदर्शनी का आयोजन भी करेगी - 'गांधी कि खोज में' जिसमे कलाकार श्री सुरेश जयराम द्वारा संकलित सात समसामयिक भारतीय कलाकारों का काम होगा, तथा साबरमती आश्रम अहमदाबाद के लिए प्रोफेसर कीर्ति त्रिवेदी द्वारा संकलित 'मेरा जीवन ही मेरा संदेश है' कि प्रदर्शनी भी होगी।
